Sexuality Education for Parents
For over 20 years I have been a sexuality educator for Hope Clinic for Women. I’m also the mother of a teenager. I have a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and am certified as a sexuality educator by the American Association of Sex Educators Counselors and Therapists (A.A.S.E.C.T.).
A.A.S.E.C.T. is a not-for-profit, interdisciplinary professional organization. You can see their rigorous requirements for the Sexuality Educator certification at http://www.aasect.org/req.asp.
Over the years I have worked with many parents who were hesitant to talk to their children about sexuality. If your parents did not speak openly with you, it can be very awkward. It will be easier for you and more natural for your child if you start the process, appropriately, at a very early age.
If you didn’t start the process early, it is never too late. I have suggestions for talking to children of all ages. Feel free to e-mail me at AskHope@Hopeclinic.com if you have questions. This may be one of the most important gifts you’ll ever give your child.
